Good starter page for Workflows and how to get started (whitepaper on the page exists as well).  They also have a SharePoint Designer Webpart Add-in to add new functionality.

While I have my own thoughts on why changing the look of SharePoint (particularly corporately) is counter-productive, this site appears to have built a business of providing themes (skins) for SharePoint.
